Matchmaker takes advantage of client ( 2003-08-27 14:37) (China Daily)
The manager of a matchmaking firm was arrested on Monday for assuming a false
identity and persuading a woman who had fallen in love with him to "loan" him
70,000 yuan (US$8,400), reports Beijing Times.
The woman, Zhang, got to know and soon fell in love with Guo, who claimed to
be a manager for a foreign trade company, last June through a matchmaking
company.
In March, Guo asked Zhang to lend him some cash, saying all of his own money
was tied up in his business. Zhang lent him 19,000 yuan (US$2,300) the first
time, and ended up handing over a total of 70,000 yuan in the following months.
But when Zhang tried to contact Guo in June, she found the address and
contact numbers he had given her were all useless. She then called police. Guo
admitted that he had opened the matchmaking company himself.
