Students-in-need swindlers in disguise ( 2003-08-26 16:38) (China Daily) Three young men claiming to be Peking University graduate students were found trying to cheat students at Nanchang University on Sunday, reports Jiangnan Metro News. A young man stopped a girl on campus, saying he had become separated from his professor with whom he had travelled there to research the economic situations in southern and northern China. He asked the girl to call to his professor on his behalf, saying that all of his luggage was still at the airport. Soon, two more men posing as students arrived. The three said they needed to fax their research reports back to Beijing that night, and asked the girl if they could borrow some money to do so. They even showed her student ID cards from Peking University. The girl withdrew 1,400 yuan (US$170), all the money she had, from her bank account for them. She didn't realize she had been duped until she dialled the telephone numbers left by the three and found the numbers did not exist. Two other students at Nanchang University were also swindled that
day.
