Hired to vote for Gold Eagle Awards ( 2003-08-25 11:22) (HK Edition)
A young man told Beijing Morning Post on Thursday that he was hired to cheat
in the public voting for the 23rd China TV Gold Eagle Award.
During the last three days before the voting ended on Thursday, the
23-year-old and several other students were each paid 100 yuan (US$12) a day to
vote via computers at an Internet cafe.
They were told they must vote for two particular candidates each time. And
they were given some proxy servers, through which they could vote repeatedly
using different ID numbers created at random.
"If the Internet connection was good, I could cast 50 to 60 votes in an
hour," said the informer, adding that his employer was a classmate.
But it is still not known who was behind the cheating, as the classmate said
he had also been hired by someone who was working for someone
else.
