Shanghai's white-collar workers were the highest paid in the country during the first half of this year, with an average annual salary of 51,635 yuan (US$6,221), an increase of 2,000 yuan from a year earlier, according to a report released by ChinaHR.com, a nationwide human resources company.

According to the report, people in the telecom industry earn the most money, with average salaries reaching 65,780 yuan. Males earned 55,022 yuan annually, compared with 40,410 yuan for women. Meanwhile, those with overseas work experience earned nearly 1.5 times as much as those without such experience.
