Tourism in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region picks up gradually after the
SARS outbreak, a tourism official of the region said Thursday.
Xue Gang, vice director of the tourism bureau, said that, after the SARS
(severe acute respiratory syndrome) outbreak the region registered a 25 per cent
growth in tourism revenue.
Thanks to a series of measures by the authorities, the region's tourism
industry has taken on good development trend, with a large batch of tourists
from Gansu, Beijing, Nanjing, Liaoning, Guangdong, Shanghai and Shanxi having
toured the region in the June-August period.
The region is rich in tourism resources, boasting of three AAAA grade tourism
resorts, according to Xue.
The vice director continued that the region's tourism
industry have witnessed fast growth over the last few years. Last year, the
region received 3.05 million tourists from home and abroad and garnered 1.2
billion yuan in tourism revenue, up 9 per cent, 11 per cent, respectively, over
the same period the year before last.
