1-year sentence for detaining baby ( 2003-08-22 10:53) (China Daily)
A family-planning enforcement officer in Linxiang, Hunan Province was
sentenced to 1 year in jail for unlawfully detaining a five-month-old baby in
his office for four days, reports Oriental News.
Last September 21, Wang Shenghua, head of the inspection team at the Linxiang
family-planning centre, summoned Xie Xianzhi and his wife, along with their baby
boy, to his office after finding out the pair had violated State laws by having
a second child without permission.
The couple were released after two days, but the baby was detained for
another 48 hours.
The couple filed a lawsuit against Wang in June.
