Producer blamed for loss of foxes ( 2003-08-22 10:32) (China Daily)
The owner of a fox farm has taken a film producer to court for causing 30
pregnant foxes to spontaneously abort, reports Beijing Morning Post.
Initially, 33 foxes at Sun Huaifang's farm were pregnant, three of which
successfully gave birth before the incident occurred.
But on the night of June 4, a production company using an open-air sound
stage near her farm in Huairou began setting off firecrackers, accompanied by
shouting and beating drums, for a drama that was being filmed there. The
interruptions went on until June 8.
Being naturally sensitive to such disturbances, the remaining 30 foxes
spontaneously aborted. Sun estimated her loss at about 90,000 yuan (US$10,800).
Xingmei Media & Feiteng Productions argued it had done nothing wrong,
because setting off firecrackers was not forbidden at the film
studio.
