Public toilets to move underground ( 2003-08-21 14:11) (China Daily) Changsha is planning to move
its public toilets underground as residents and businesses in the vicinity of
some newly built ones have expressed their displeasure with such facilities,
reports Oriental News.
Many people living or working near sites where new public toilets were being
built have damaged or otherwise sabotaged construction of the buildings, which
they consider to be polluters or harbingers of bad luck.
A 100,000-yuan (US$12,000) toilet recently completed at Xinmin Road was
vandalized by staff of a nearby restaurant before it was opened for use. The
municipal government advised that in future public toilets be built in
underground walkways and other inconspicuous places.
