'Special-privilege' licence plates abolished
( 2003-08-20 15:51) (China Daily)

Licence plates beginning with "Liao BG" will no longer be used in Dalian following complaints that such vehicles enjoyed certain privileges because of their association with members of law enforcement, reports Xinhua.

The BG series of plates used to appear exclusively on police vehicles, for which special parking perks were taken for granted and traffic-rule violations were frequently waived.

But some of the plates made their way onto non-police vehicles whose owners had connections, causing widespread complaints from the public.

Now that the privileged licence plates have been abolished, police cars that violate traffic rules will receive the same treatment as ordinary vehicles, police said.
