Some stallkeepers have been discovered selling peaches previously soaked in a mixture of water and laundry detergent, which was said to make the peaches appear plump and appetizing.

According to Jiefang Daily, the non-native stallkeepers live together in an alley near Zhongshan Road. Previously, they sold peaches at the low price of about 1 yuan (12 US cents) per half kilogram. But after washing them in the laundry detergent solution, they found they could command prices of up to 50 yuan (US$6) for the same amount.

However, while the peaches look delicious, they could be harmful.
