Man sues over auctioned police car ( 2003-08-19 10:36) (China Daily)
A man has filed a lawsuit with the Haidian District People's Court against an
auction centre for selling him what turned out to be a stolen police car, which
was reclaimed by police two years later, reports Beijing Morning Post.
Liang, the manager of a company in Heilongjiang Province, bought the car at
an auction centre in Beijing for 180,000 yuan (US$21,700) in September 2000. He
spent 50,000 yuan (US$6,040) to overhaul the car after he brought it back to
Daqing.
While driving the car in 2002, he was stopped by police, who confiscated the
vehicle and returned it to a police bureau in Sanshui, Guangdong Province, which
had reported the car missing two years earlier.
Liang is demanding 300,000 yuan (US$36,000) from the auction firm for his
loss.
