Reverse-psychology ploy fails ( 2003-08-19 10:36) (China Daily)
A car thief who pretended to be a passing pedestrian after setting off the
anti-theft siren of the vehicle he had just broken into was caught anyway,
reports Beijing Morning Post.
At about 4 am last Thursday, Zhang woke up to the sound of his Jeep's alarm
going off. When he hurried downstairs, he found the door of his vehicle prised
open and noticed a man slowly walking away.
Suspecting the man was the thief, Zhang followed him for awhile after calling
police. Zhang eventually stopped the man at about the time he thought the police
should be arriving.
When police later asked the thief why he did not run away but kept walking
along, he explained that if he had run, he would definitely have been considered
the thief. This way he thought he had half a chance of getting away with his
crime.
