Driver injured by own explosive trap ( 2003-08-18 15:07) (China Daily)
A motorcycle-taxi driver in Panjin, Liaoning Province, was injured on Monday
by an explosive he had fixed to his vehicle as a theft-prevention device,
reports Beifang Morning Post.
Li Chen was a motorized-tricycle driver in Dawa County in Panjin.
After he lost two tricycles in rapid succession over a short period of time,
the angry man made an explosive from firecracker powder, which he installed on
his new tricycle. If a thief started up the engine, it would trigger the
explosive.
Li attached the device to his vehicle every night and removed it every
morning before heading out to work. But he forgot to take it off on Monday - and
the explosive went off when he fired up the tricycle.
He was hospitalized soon after, suffering damage to an artery behind his left
knee.
