A suicidal woman who was planning to set fire to a gas tank with a lighter was rescued by firefighters before she could make good her threat, reports Jiefang Daily.

Firefighters "shot" the lighter out of her hand with a blast of water.

The Shandong Province native worked at a beauty salon in Shanghai's Songjiang District. She became distraught after her boyfriend, a married man, broke her heart.

Knives, an axe and broken glass bottles were also found in her room after she was rescued.
