10 years' work in exchange for cure ( 2003-08-15 14:45) (China Daily)
A migrant worker suffering from tuberculosis has offered to work without pay for 10 years for anyone willing to give her money towards curing the disease. Xie Mei, a 29-year-old from Anhui Province, advertised the offer through Information Times. The woman was diagnosed with tuberculosis after getting married two years ago. Her husband has since deserted her. She and her young son now live with her brother in Shenzhen, Xie said. She has spent 10,000 yuan (US$1,208) of her own savings and another 10,000 of her brother's for medical treatment but has yet to be cured. Xie said she could no longer bear to burden her brother, who is also a migrant worker and has his own family to support. She has offered to sign a 10-years-without-pay contract with any person or company willing to pay for her treatment.
