Outdated pacemaker harmful ( 2003-08-15 11:20) (China Daily)
A 74-year-old man who had an outdated pacemaker implanted in his chest has
sued both the company that supplied the device and the hospital that performed
the operation, reports Oriental Morning Post.
Zhu Qinsen said he was not told the truth three years ago before undergoing
the operation. He testified that the pacemaker had harmed his health, as it
moved back and forth between his heart and his armpit. He has also suffered from
insomnia since the operation and only gets about four hours of sleep a night.
Hang Min, a former salesperson with the company, said sales of outdated
medical devices were not uncommon, and medical supply companies offered doctors
high commissions on such items.
