42% prefer work on hot days ( 2003-08-14 10:28) (China Daily)
A survey conducted among 1,000 employed locals reveals that about 42 per cent
would rather work on hot days than be given time off with holiday pay.
The reason is simple - wages paid for holiday time are low, usually just a
worker's base pay, while employers are obliged to pay more to anyone willing to
work in the intense heat.
According to labour laws, once temperatures exceed 40 degrees Celsius,
workers must be given the option of taking time off with pay or continuing to
work for extra pay.
