Club Bruges beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in the first leg of their Champions
League third qualifying round on Wednesday but the Belgians could live to regret
the mistake by goalkeeper Dany Verlinden that handed the Germans a precious away
goal
Bruges looked set for an easy win after Slovenian international Nastja Ceh
headed home after 32 minutes followed by a goal from Gert Verheyen a minute
before halftime.
But Verlinden failed to keep hold of a powerful Jan Koller strike in the 52nd
minute. allowing Brazilian striker Marcio Amoroso to pounce on the loose ball.
"It's a pity they were able to score that goal. We weren't able to keep up
the pressure in the second half as much and they were able to come through,"
said Bruges defender Timmy Simons.
Bruges had several good scoring opportunities towards the end of the game,
with Peru winger Andres Mendoza missing the best of them whe he shot wide when
well-placed.
