Five villagers in North Shanghai's Baoshan District were hit by lightning during a thunderstorm on Monday after they rushed into a rubbish shed to avoid the rain. One person was killed and the other four seriously injured, according to Shanghai Morning Post.

The four who survived suffered severe burns and other wounds.

Experts said it was unusual for so many people to be struck at once. They suggested that the five, who were all wet, might have been standing too close to each other. The person who died took the direct impact and served as a conductor through which the others were injured.
