Staged accidents to swindle insurers ( 2003-08-13 11:43) (China Daily)
Two brothers were arrested on July 21 for swindling compensation payments
from insurance firms by damaging cars in prearranged "accidents", reports
Beijing Evening News.
Despite suffering repeated physical injuries, some of them severe, and a few
narrow escapes from death, Wang Changsheng and Wang Changkai orchestrated 90
accidents over the past three years, collecting in excess of 500,000 yuan
(US$60,000) in bogus insurance claims, according to the Beijing Traffic Bureau.
The former car-repairmen usually replaced the more important parts of the
cars they used in the staged accidents with second-hand parts, then drove them
into traffic lights or signs and even head-on collisions with other vehicles
they'd tampered with to suit their purposes.
They occasionally colluded with other car owners in similar
scams.
