French hotel group to increase presence in China ( 2003-08-13 09:30) (Xinhua)
France's Accor, an international hotel management service, announced Tuesday
in Shanghai that it will increase its presence in China by opening nine hotels
on the mainland by the end of 2004.
The nine hotels include two economy class known as "Ibis", to open in Tianjin
City in north China and Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province in southwest China.
Ibis Tianjin will open in October 2003 and Ibis Chengdu in the third quarter of
2004.
This is a major step by Accor to expand business on the Chinesemainland since
its entry into the hotel market in 1985.
"Accor will expand its network in China and intends to provide a complete
hotel network for the country," said Michael Issenberg,managing director of
Accor Asia Pacific.
Accor now manages 21 hotels on the Chinese mainland and Hong
Kong.
