A 21-year-old high school graduate surnamed Yang, was recently arrested by
local police in Hanzhong City of northwest China's Shaanxi Province for
allegedly threatening to cause explosions at Qinghua University, one of the
country's top universities, according to local media reports.
The young man reportedly became crazed after twice failing to pass the annual
national examinations for college recruitment. His girlfriend has been studying
at Qinghua University for two years.
On July 17, the young man wrote four times on the Internet that he was going
to carry out a suicide explosion on a dormitory compound or the library of the
Beijing-based university.
On the same day, Beijing police informed Hanzhong police of the threat. On
July 26, the young man was captured at his home.
According to the police, Yang graduated from high school
in 2001 and he had failed the national university entrance examinations for 2001
and 2003. He only scored 280 this year but had been very nervous since he told
his family that his score was 507.
