Owners fined for maltreatment ( 2003-08-12 10:33) (China Daily)
A privately run clothing factory in northern Shanghai was recently fined
after the owner forced employees to put in 16-hour days in the workshop without
air conditioning, according to Shanghai Youth Daily.
During some of the most sweltering days of the summer, 761 medium and
small-sized private companies have been found guilty of abusing their labour
forces. Fines have been imposed for excessively prolonging working hours,
intervening in governmental surveillance efforts and refusing to sign labour
contracts.
