The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) starts the second
phase of its joint military exercise in Yili, Northwest China's
Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region August 11, 2003. More than 1,000 officers
and soldiers from the SCO's five member states, including China and
Russia, take part in the anti-terrorism maneuver. The first phase of the
drill was held in Kazakhstan's border city of Ucharal. [China Daily]
