Landslide kills four Gansu
( 2003-08-07 17:40) (Xinhua)

Two adults and two children died after being suffocated during a landlside on Tuesday in Ningxian County of northwest China's Gansu Province.

The accident occurred about 1:00 a.m. when a 50-meter hill slid and buried Yao Liansheng, Yao's wife Zhang Cailian, their son Yao Longlong and their neighbor Yao Ziyou, who slept in their house, at Sucheng Village.

Four rooms were destroyed during the landslide.

A preliminary investigation pointed to heavy rainfall as the most likely cause for the landslide.

Most peasants in the county live in cave houses or build dwellings close to hills and mountains.
