Two was confirmed dead and six were injured in an explosion that occurred at 7:59 a.m. Thursday in a fireworks factory in east China's Fujian Province.

The injured have been hospitalized and another 13 people were still missing, according to witnesses.

The explosion occurred at the Jingxi Fireworks Factory of Minhou County, located at the foot of a hill, two kilometers away from Jingxi Town.

Firemen and police rushed to the scene immediately to put out the fire and search for survivors. Leading officials of Fuzhou City, the provincial capital, also went there to coordinate rescue efforts.

Investigation into the cause of the blast was under way.
