Graduate Officers go to their posts ( 2003-07-22 17:20) (PLA Daily) After 5 years of united cross-discipline and
cross-specialty education, the first group of chief officer candidates for
various aviation departments of naval ships has successfully finished their
study at 3 different colleges and was assigned to naval ships on July 18. This
has put an end to the history in which the Chinese naval aviation department has
no "regular graduates".
In recent years, as the shipboard aircraft's role in naval ship's
anti-submarine operation, operations against hostile land forces and naval
forces becoming more and more important, it is high time for us to cultivate a
group of highly qualified chief officers for aviation departments of naval ship
who are well versed in the knowledge of naval ship as well as aviation.
The chief officer candidates for aviation departments this time entered the
Dalian Naval Academy last March. Before that, they had studied three years and a
half in the Naval Aeronautical Engineering Academy and the Naval Aviation
Academy, where they finished study of general knowledge courses and aviation
courses. Each student, having piloted airplanes for over 130 hours or above, has
got some practical experience of aviation.
In the Dalian Naval Academy, they studied systematically 30 specialty
courses, including organization, management, navigation, operation and tactics
of surface ships, and the theory, performance, operational skill and operational
command of armaments, which the chief officer of aviation departments should
grasp.
Through one year and a half's cultivation, they have acquired the basic
quality for a junior commanding officer on a surface ship. In the past five
years, the students have learnt 80 courses, which across 6 disciplines, and
involves over 20 related specialties. Recently they have successfully passed the
united examination by specialists and professors from three colleges they had
studied.
