Shaanxi register first win, Shanghai regains leading spot
( 2003-07-07 09:34) (Xinhua)

Shaanxi clinched their first win of the season after crushing hosts Bayi 4-0 in the Chinese first division soccer league in Xiangtan, Hunan Province, on Sunday.

Bayi, unbeatable at home before the game, played attacking soccer from the start but found impossible to breach the tight defense of Shaanxi.

Brazilian striker Reginaldo put Shaanxi ahead in the 14th minutes and Wang Changqing made it 2-0 just before the halftime.

Bayi's Sun Xinbo was sent off for stamping a rival player in the 66th minute and that was taken advantage of by Shaanxi, who scored two goals in stoppage time for the comfortable win.

Despite the win, Shaanxi still stay at bottom of the standings with one win, two draws and five losses.

Shanghai Shenhua regained leading position in the Chinese first division soccer league after the nine-man visitors beat Qingdao 2- 1.

In the day's other games, Shandong was held by Beijing to a goalless draw, Yunnan tied Sichuan 1-1, Tianjin beat Shenyang 2-1.
