Beijing grateful to Nokia's support in SARS fight
( 2003-06-27 10:43) (Xinhua)

Liu Qi, secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), expressed his gratitude on Thursday to Nokia, Finland's mobile phone giant, for its financial support for the city's fight against SARS.

Liu, also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said he appreciated the active cooperation by the company during the SARS crisis, which helped guarantee the smooth production of its subsidiary factory in Beijing.

Liu made the remarks while meeting with Jorma Ollila, president and CEO of Nokia, noting that the city would further improve the investment environment to attract more overseas capital.

Beijing Acting Mayor Wang Qishan said in his meeting with Jorma Ollila that Nokia had helped Beijing's fight against SARS and that the city would exert more efforts to boost economic growth and prepare for the Olympic Games.
