Chinese entrepreneur on China-India economic cooperation
( 2003-06-25 10:42) (Xinhua)

India's phenomenal growth in the information technology industry and its achievements in software design are generating more business opportunities for Chinese enterprises, said Choi Koon-shun, president of the Hong Kong-based Sun Wah Group Tuesday.

At the China-India Business Forum held here during Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's visit to China, Choi told Xinhua that, through cooperation with Indian companies in the software industry, he had succeeded in turning his group into a high-tech giant.

Last year, former Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji, upon returning from a visit to India, told Chinese high-tech enterprises to learn from their Indian counterparts, Choi said, adding that he himself traveled to India later to seek support from the Indian business community.

The Sun Wah Group, once focused on seafood production and real estate, shifted its focus to high-tech industries in the 1990s and Choi began learning about software development from the successful experiences of Indian enterprises.

Through cooperation with Indian QAI software company, his group made remarkable progress in the information technology industry, he said.

In addition to the booming information industry, India is rich in natural resources, and enjoys comparative advantages in farm products, automobiles, petroleum products, the chemical industry and pharmaceuticals, he said.

With the further opening of Chinese markets, bilateral economic and trade cooperation has huge potential, he said, expressing the belief that Vajpayee's visit to China will surely contribute to the advancement of cooperative relations.
