A Hong Kong public hospital doctor, the first who died in the fight against SARS, was honored Thursday with a hero's funeral attended by the Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa, senior officials and hundreds of people.
Dr. Tse Yuen-man, 35, died May 13, was buried in Gallant Garden, a special cemetery for people who die while carrying out their duties with courage.
Tse had volunteered to work in a SARS ward and had been infected as she and her colleagues tried to resuscitate a patient in a hospital.
Her coffin was covered with the flag of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
A song named "Amazing Grace" was sung passionately by the doctor's colleagues and friends.
SARS has infected 1,719 people in Hong Kong and killed 255, including a health care assistant who recently became the third front-line hospital worker to die.
