Big chance for improving Sino-US military ties: PLA leader Bilateral relations between China and the United States as well as their armed forces face important opportunities for improvement, Kui Fulin, deputy chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), said Friday. At a meeting with the US National Defense University Capstone Delegation, led by Thomas Morgan, a retired general, Kui said the meeting between Chinese President Jiang Zemin and US President George W. Bush in the United States is an important event in Sino- US relations. He said China believed that through joint efforts, President Jiang's visit is assured of success, and will inject new energy into developing relations between the two countries and two armed forces. China always views exchanges between the two armed forces positively, regarding bilateral military ties as an important part of constructive China-US cooperation. Together with the United States, China is willing to expand exchanges and cooperation between the two armed forces on the basis of mutual respect and interests, he said. Kui also briefed the guests on China's principled stance on the Taiwan issue. Morgan said his delegation's visit has helped the students learn more about China and the PLA, and is of great importance for future relations between the two armed forces. |
