China takes measures to prevent entry of cholera from Liberia

The State Administration of Quality Supervision and Quarantine of China released a public bulletin Wednesday requiring stringent controls in order to prevent the entry of cholera from Liberia.

According to China's Frontier Health and Quarantine Law, the bulletin requested passengers arriving from Liberia, the site of arecent cholera outbreak which has killed at least six people and infected hundreds of others, to report any symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea before entering Chinese territory.

Carriers or suspected carriers of the disease arriving in Chinashould be isolated, said the bulletin.

All transportation vehicles, cargo, containers, luggage and parcels from the strife-torn West African nation should undergo strict quarantine and disinfection treatment.

The notice also stipulated that aquatic products, vegetables, fruits, drinks and other food would not be allowed to be unloaded without permission.

Meanwhile, entry-exit quarantine departments and mobile health care centers will provide advice on cholera and health care services for domestic passengers traveling to Liberia.
