Strict selection for aviation security guards () 07/12/2002 To battle terrorism and hijacking, China Eastern Airlines based in Shanghai will recruit 30 aviation security guards, the Shanghai Morning Post reported.The qualifications are set according to a unified standard for air duty personnel. Any male Shanghai citizen under the age of 25 with a college diploma can apply. Veterans who have received special training will be considered first. More than 400 people have applied so far, including a national champion of Chinese martial arts, a veteran from the Hong Kong garrison, and a graduate in computer science who has trained in karate for seven years. After passing tests in English and comprehension, 34 people candidates were chosen to undergo a physical exam held on Tuesday at the civil aviation hospital. They will then face a stricter body exam, and four months' closure training before taking part in the written examination sponsored by the Civil Aviation Bureau. Only after this will they be recruited by China Eastern Airlines. The establishment of this air police force has been ratified by the State Council. The aviation security guards will be transferred into an air police force gradually, and will receive double supervision by the Public Security Department, the Civil Aviation Bureau, and airline companies.
