"Three Represents" campaign succeeds in countryside
( 2002-06-25 13:52) (Xinhua)

The drive in the countryside to study "Three Represents" thought of President Jiang Zemin has brought substantial benefits to China's rural population, a conference was told Monday.

The "Three Represents" thought calls for the Chinese Communist Party to represent the development trend of China's advanced social productive forces, the orientation of China's advanced culture, and the fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of the people of China.

The study of the Three Represents Thought should promote the building of grassroots organizations of the CPC and provide stronger political and organizational guarantees for reform, development and stability in the countryside, Hu Jintao, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, told the meeting to commend outstanding individuals and organizations in the study, which was held in Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province.

Vice-Premier and member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau Wen Jiabao also attended the meeting, which was presided over by Zeng Qinghong, an alternate member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau and a member of the CPC Central Committee Secretariat.

In his speech, Hu spoke highly of the achievements made in the campaign which was launched in December 2000 and concluded this May. The campaign had achieved its goal to "let cadres be educated and farmers get substantial benefits", he said.

The study and practice of the "Three Represents" thought was a long-term task, Hu stressed.

At the meeting, Hu, Wen and Zeng handed awards to representatives of institutions and individuals who have been praised for their meritorious activities in the campaign.
