Zidane to quit after four more years with Real Madrid
( 2002-05-14 09:31 ) (7 )

Zinedine Zidane will quit football after his contract is up at Real Madrid, the French World Cup winner was quoted as saying on Monday.

"I want to play the remaining four years of my contract at Real, until I'm 33," Zidane said in an interview with Spanish daily El Mundo.

"I'll retire in Real Madrid. After that, there'll be nothing. I'm absolutely clear about that and I'll say that's enough.

"I've played for the best club in the world and if everything goes the way I hope I'll have won everything.

"I won't play in a French club or a club anywhere else. After I've retired, I'll spend a year with my family. I'll forget about football."

Zidane, who can complete his collection of major honours by helping Real to victory in the final of the Champions League on Wednesday, said he would not consider coaching after his retirement from playing.

"I will return to football after my year out but not as a coach," he said. "I don't like the life of the bench. It doesn't go with my character."
