The municipal bureau of education will release its first annual appraisal of Beijing's higher learning institutes in April to help middleschool graduates choose their universities, Beijing Times reported yesterday.

The appraisal will include academic performance analysis by specialists, self-evaluations of the schools and other key facts.

Beijing is home to 61 universities and colleges, including the prestigious Peking University and Qinghua University.
