( 2001-11-30 15:22 ) (8 )

The Chinese capital has issued a warning to people involved in relics theft and smuggling, urging them to surrender to police.

According to the circular jointly issued this week by relics protection and police departments as well as other law enforcement agencies, relics thieves and smugglers should surrender within 60 days or face severe punishment according to law.

It reiterated that the trade of any unearthed relics, relics preserved in museums and relics of special importance is banned.

Rewards will be given to those who give tips to police concerning relics robbery and smuggling.
