Anti-war rallies held in Greece
( 2001-10-19 08:42 ) (8 )

About 500 students gathered on Thursday for a protest rally in Athens against the war in Afghanistan at the gates of Athens University.

After the rally, the students marched on to the United States Embassy in Athens and then dispersed without incident.

Meanwhile, university and school students in northern Greek city of Salonika held a twin rally and marched to the US consulate, where they deposited envelopes filled with talcum powder.

They continued their march to the Macedonia-Thrace Ministry, where they also left envelopes full of powder, wrote anti-war slogans on the main gate and hurled eggs before dispersing.
