  Credit for Anting Town

Bank of Shanghai has signed an agreement with Shanghai New Anting Development Co to provide it with financial and strategic services including a 1-billion-yuan credit, capital settlement and consultancy. The firm, set up in Anting New Town on July 30, will become one of the "pillar projects" in response to the call to establishing an 11-square-kilometre international automobile city there.

American firm doubles up

General Electric Appliances announced in Shanghai last week that it will double its purchases in China within the next two years. The company plans to fulfil one-third of its total purchase requirements in China this year, said President and CEO Jim Campbell at an annual meeting for the company's Asian suppliers.

Food & hotels fair

The Eighth China International Food and Hotels Exhibition has been slated for August 28-31 in Shanghai. In addition to domestic participants, 21 delegations and more than 500 enterprises from overseas have registered for the exposition. Exhibits will include food, sweets, drinks, raw materials, furniture and interior decoration, as well as electrical equipment.

Forex trading boost

China's interbank foreign exchange transactions averaged $2.49 million per trading day in July, up 72 per cent over the same month last year. The total transactions of the 22 trading days in July were worth US$5.471 billion, according to the Shanghai-based China Foreign Exchange Centre.

Securities e-deal

Intel (China) Ltd and Shanghai-based Guotai Junan Securities Co Ltd recently reached an agreement, allowing Guotai Junan to use Intel's architecture to implement its e-business platform. The agreement is expected to strengthen Guotai Junan's competitive edge in both its traditional and Internet businesses.

Toothsome makeover

Shanghai-based Unilever (China) Co Ltd announced an overall image change in its Zhonghua toothpaste, the company's pillar product and also top brand on the domestic market. No price change is expected. Changes will be made to the tube, logo and packaging appearance.
