Recent achievements by SUSTech faculty members
Every faculty member counts here at SUSTech. Every year on Teachers’ Day, the University will award the talented and hard working teachers and staffs on campus to recognize their contributions.
As in the 2018 annual awarding ceremony, Vice President Tang Tao awarded Jiang Wei and Liang Yongye, Outstanding Young Professor of the Year Awards.
Liang Yongye expressed his gratitude to the members of his research team, and he said: “A seed can only survive if it is rooted in fertile soil. I am very proud to be rooted in the fertile soil of SUSTech. I am also proud of being a member to create the history of SUSTech.”
SUSTech has developed a wide range of training systems for its talent teams, in conjunction with its operational and development strategies. As a result of SUSTech’s approach to talent development, it has established a high-level talent team with excellent academic abilities, global outlook and reasonable structure.
With the support from the University, we saw a number of SUSTech faculty members were recognized by the academic circle and the society.
2019 saw more professors from SUSTech elected into academies across the world. Professor Zheng Chunmiao from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) has been elected a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union (AGU). Professor Liu Junguo of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) was nominated to be a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (RGS).
During the last few months, SUSTech staff and faculty members won a number of awards for their academic research. The Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences (CSES) awarded Associate Professor Feng Lian from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering (ESE) at SUSTech with a Young Scientist Award.
Assistant Prof. Zhang Zhenguo from the Department of Earth and Space Sciences (ESS) received NSFC Fund for Excellent Young Scientists, while Prof. Lu Haizhou from the Department of Physics and the Shenzhen Institute of Quantum Science and Engineering (SIQSE) for Distinguished Young Scholars. Vice Chairperson Li Fengliang was conferred as Provincial Excellent Social Scientist. Chair Prof. Liu Junguo from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering was selected as one of the recipients of the 15th Science and Technology Award for Chinese Youth. Prof. Hisao Ishibuchi from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) received the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers – Computational Intelligence Society (IEEE CIS) Fuzzy Systems Pioneer Award. Prof. Yu Hao from the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering Won IEEE BioCAS Best Paper Award. The research group of Associate Professor Sun Dazhao from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering was ranked in the Top 50 of the “2018 Disruptive Innovation Awards.”
Besides, SUSTech stuff and faculty members have been encouraging to become high-achievers in sports, fictions and so on. Sports Center teacher Lu Yang was crowned the champion of “I Am The King of Fists” in the “2019 Global Kungfu Spring Festival Evening Champion Kungfu National Final.” Faculty member at Humanities Center and Ph.D. of condensed particle physics Liu Yang was a winner of the Silver Medal for Best Novella with Wu Shuang for their work, “The Ladder of Paradise.”
SUSTech has also expanded and broadened its talent recruitment channels, to include high-level talent recruitment fairs, online channels, friends and colleagues. SUSTech has utilized a wide variety of channels to fully publicize its needs for talents, both at home and abroad.
In the future, SUSTech will continue to cultivate high-level talents and create an improved situation for its talented team. This approach will contribute to the realization of the enhanced operations of SUSTech, Shenzhen pilot demonstration area and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
