Petroleum engineering competition promotes global education, exchanges
"The competition has become the largest and most influential event of innovation for students in petroleum education," said Han Shangfeng, vice-president of the China University of Petroleum-Beijing (CUPB).
"It has gradually become a highlight in global petroleum education," Han said while attending the 9th China Petroleum Engineering Design Competition.
The competition combines talent cultivation and national energy security, added Han, who’s also the deputy director of its organizing committee.
It has injected new vitality into talent fostering and university-enterprise cooperation, according to Han.
Over 4,000 students from thirty-four universities of China and seven universities abroad attended the two-month event.
Universities in countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative were invited to the competition.
The topic of the contest comes from the Xinjiang Oil Field, the first big oil field discovered after the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949.
The organizing committee received 1,273 eligible works, and 78 teams made it to the final round in Beijing.
A series of activities -- including petroleum and engineering knowledge contests, an SPE cultural night, and a PhD student forum -- were held during the event.
