Maoping Maojian tea: Tradition has it that Maoping Maojian tea originated in the reign of Emperor Tianqi (1620) in the Ming Dynasty. Zhu Ruhui, the fifth son of Wuchang Prince, became a monk and lived at Feihua Temple in Hengshan Mountain of Hunan province. He did this to stay away from Wei Zhongxian, a powerful eunuch.

Due to the frequent turmoil, Zhu subsequently moved to Maoping, built Dabei Temple, and gave himself Hengxing as his dharma name. He planted tea trees on the both sides of Dabei Temple and cultivated a dense tea plantation. Tender buds were picked to produce quality tea of pure taste for refreshment. Maoping Maojian tea has been sold to Singapore and Germany.
