Anhua pin needle tea is processed with tender shoots growing in the high mountains of Anhua county, Hunan province. The tea looks like pine needles which is where it got its name from. The tea, with strong scent and sweet taste, can be made for many rounds and looks lucid and bright.
Developed in 1959, the tea was listed among Hunan's top three teas in 1962. It was rated as a famous tea by the Ministry of Commerce in 1986 and by the Ministry of Agriculture in 1989. It won the gold prize at China's First Food Expo in 1988. It also won a gold medal at the Ulan Bator International Commerce, Industry and Trade Fair in 1994 and was named as a national tourist commodity.
