The Southern Great Wall is 10 kilometers away from the Fenghuang (Phoenix) Ancient city. In April, 2000, the archaeologists discovered that more than 190 kilometers of the ancient wall were the same as those of the northern Great Wall. Experts confirm that it was part of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall built to defend the kingdom against the Miao people of the south.

The wall is about 3 meters high and its basement is about 2 meters wide. Its main part is built on the precipitous ridges. There are more than 800 whistle terraces, gun emplacements, blockhouses, and outposts used for stationing troops and defending. At that time, there were 4,000 to 5,000 soldiers in the troop. Two sections of the wall are still standing with one in Liaojiaqiao town and the other in Jixing town. The section in Liaojiaqiao town has been renovated for visitors. Transport: Shuttle buses from Fenghuang Ancient city to here are available. Tel: (86)743-3771309. Admission (for reference): 45 yuan /adult. Opening hours: 07:30-18:00
