Originating in Xiushui of Jiangxi province, the 253-km-long Miluo River covers an area of 1,670 square km.

It runs through Pingjiang and Miluo and enters the Dongting Lake. Early in the Warring States Period (475-221BC), Qu Yuan drowned himself in the river. In memory of him, every year on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar, people living along the river hold dragon boat races, which are said to represent the search for his body.

The Xiangchu cultural tourist route is comprised of the Miluo scenic area and other tourist attractions, such as the Miluo River, Quyuan Shrine, Ren Bishi Memorial Hall, and the Cave with Eight Scenic Spots. Additionally, tourists can see the former residences of Zuo Zongtang and Guo Songtao, Confucius Temple in Xiangyin county and Yuezhou Kiln. This tourist route is very popular.
