On Oct 8, 100 celebrated painters and calligraphers from the mainland and Taiwan painted on a 100-meter scroll in Wulingyuan scenic spot, Hunan province, to commemorate the 1911 Revolution.

The event was hosted by the municipal government and undertaken by the district government and cultural institutions across the Strait, including Shengli Exhibition (Beijing) Culture Co Ltd, Taiwan’s Chinese Calligraphy Society, and the Fujian Academy of Painting and Calligraphy at Xiamen city, Fujian province..

On the day, painters and calligraphers gathered at the gallery to create a 100-meter scroll commemorating the 100th anniversary of 1911 Revolution, and promoting the cultural exchange across the Taiwan Straits.

After the work was complete, the painters and calligraphers revealed the scroll in a panoramic display for participants of the event. Traditional Chinese instruments, such as the suona, drums and gongs, played during the unveiling while 300 peace doves were released into the sky.

The event aims to enhance cultural and artistic exchange across the straits, strengthen the connection between the mainland and Taiwan people and promote peaceful reunification.

This is the first event held by Zhangjiajie city and one of the local celebration activities to commemorate the 100th anniversary of 1911 Revolution.

Among the 100 painters and calligraphers, 70 were from the Chinese mainland, with the rest from Taiwan, including the Chairman of Taiwan Calligraphy Society Gong Chaoyang, Secretary-General of Taiwan Calligraphy Society He Zhengyi, and Chen Yangchun, a well-known watercolorist who has held 150 exhibitions around the world.

Zhangjiajie’s local calligrapher, Zhao Huiyan, also attended the event. His works were carried by Shenzhou VII spaceship into the outer space. There will be two more painting events, a large on-site painting and calligraphy seminar at Shanshuiwutai, Baofeng Lake, and on-site painting and calligraphy of Zhangjiajie.
