On Aug 5, the Victoria State of Australia and Hunan province of China signed a memorandum of cooperation to solve environmental problems.

In the memorandum, both sides promised to join hands in solving problems while sharing experiences. The trade and economic delegation to Hunan is the largest ever in history with over 120 members representing about 100 Australian companies.

In addition to concluding an agreement on the environment protection cooperation with the Hunan environmental protection bureau, the delegation will also visit China's booming inland cities, such as Chengdu, Chongqing, Wuhan, Changsha and Guangzhou. They will meet with local government officials and business leaders. Changsha is the second stop of their trip.

Craig Emerson, the trade minister and acting foreign minister of Australia, noted that the visit from Aug 4 to 9 reflects the importance of China to Australia's economic future.

Emerson said that this visit marks a new chapter of our economic engagement with the world's fastest-growing large economy. China is moving from an export-driven economic model to one driven by consumer demand and fast urbanization. Inland Chinese cities are becoming more prosperous as growth spreads to new frontiers.

It is reported that the Australian delegation members mostly came from service industries such as green building and designing, clean energy, education, financial and professional services, IT, health, culture and logistics. The delegation expected to expand cooperation with China's inland cities on this account.
