On July 12, Zhou Qiang, the secretary of the CPC Hunan provincial committee and director of the standing committee of the people's congress of Hunan met with Sebastian Wood, British Ambassador to China and his delegation in Changsha.

Zhou extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He said that Hunan and Britain have been communicating for a long time and that the exchange and cooperation between the two sides is becoming increasingly close. In recent years, Hunan has witnessed sound and rapid social and economic development, enhanced its position of agriculture as the foundation for the economy, and accelerated infrastructure construction.

In addition, local industries with advantages such as iron and steel, nonferrous metals, engineering machinery, rail traffic, wind-power generation and cultural tourism have enjoyed rapid growth. Education, science, technology and talents have played an ever greater role in economic development.

While boosting the rapid economic growth and the continuous increase in people's income, Hunan has attached great importance to law. It has created an open, fair and just legal environment providing a strong legal guarantee for people to live and work in peace.

He also hoped that their visit would further stimulate exchange and cooperation between Hunan and Britain in terms of trade, education, culture and finance.
