Prodigy on Children's Day
Since he started learning piano at 3, Abu (pictured) has preferred jazz to classical music. The 13-year-old prodigy, one of the most promising Chinese jazz musicians, whose real name is Dai Liang, will perform with his jazz trio on International Children's Day, performing a series of classical Latin jazz pieces. The charity concert, which will gather other local jazz musicians, will offer financial help to poverty-stricken children living in Shanxi province.

Bamboo melodies
To commemorate World Environment Day on June 5, the Beijing-based Green Bamboo Orchestra (pictured) will give a special performance at Peking University Centennial Hall. As the country's first orchestra with all bamboo instruments, Green Bamboo will take the audience into a green world with a dozen different melodies. From flutes shorter than a finger to percussion tubes thicker than an elephant's leg, the bamboo instruments create a remarkable array of sound. All the performers have devoted years to their repertoire, and the orchestra has won wide acclaim on its overseas tours.
